LUOGHI
DELLA RESILIENZA E MIGRAZIONI
E'

terapeutica?
noi.

Il libro raccoglie i contributi presentati all'omonimo

Totalitarismo e psicoanalisi)
e di Gerhard
Schneider (L’oggetto perduto – l’oggetto

PSICOLOGIA
DELL'ANTISEMITISMO
a
cura di Giuseppe Leo
Edizioni

Nel
1945, all'indomani della Liberazione, Imre Hermann
(1889-1984), psicoanalista ungherese, diede alle stampe
"Psicologia dell'antisemitismo".
psicoanalitica.

We
are glad to announce the issue of the last book published
in English by Edizioni Frenis Zero: "NEUROSCIENCE
AND PSYCHOANALYSIS", G. Leo (ed.), prefaced by
Georg Northoff, writings by David Mann, Allan N.
Schore, Robert Stickgold, Bessel A. Van Der Kolk,
Grigoris Vaslamatzis, Matthew P. Walker, Collection
"Psychoanalysis and Neuroscience", Frenis Zero
Publisher, Lecce 2014, pp.300, € 49,00.
The
book gathers some papers concerning the dialogue between
neuroscience and psychoanalysis. Following the
Introduction written by Georg Northoff, concerning the
possibility of overcoming the highly impasse generating
contraposition between localizationism and holism, G.
Vaslamatzis deals with a “Framework for a new dialogue
between psychoanalysis and neurosciences”. In this
chapter the author describes three points of
epistemological congruence: firstly, dualism is no
longer a satisfactory solution; secondly, cautions for
the centrality of interpretation (hermeneutics); and,
thirdly, the self-criticism of neuroscientists. David
W.Mann in his contribution “The mirror crack’d:
dissociation and reflexivity in self and group phenomena”
tries to show how reflexive processes generate each of
three levels of the human system (self, relationships,
group) and integrate them one to another, while
dissociative processes tend throughout to pull them
apart. Health and illness within the self, the
relationship and the group can be understood as special
states of the dynamic equilibria between these cohesive
and dispersive trends. In “Sleep, memory and
plasticity” Matthew P. Walker and Robert Stickgold
outline a review of the researches following the
discovery of rapid eye movement (REM) and non-REM (NREM)
sleep, and specifically of those that began testing the
hypothesis that sleep, or even specific stages of sleep,
actively participated in the process of memory
development. The last two chapters, “Clinical
implications of neuroscience research in PTSD” by
Bessel A. Van Der Kolk, and “Dysregulation of the
right brain: a fundamental mechanism of traumatic
attachment and the psychopathogenesis of PTSD” by
Allan N. Schore, demonstrate how the psychopathology of
traumatic conditions can be a fertile field of dialogue
between neuroscience and psychoanalysis.

The
Conference, organized by the Centro Psicoanalitico di
roma in collaboration with Centro Milanese di
Psicoanalisi, will address the current understanding and
treatment of three widespread clinical complaints:
addiction, depression, and trauma-related disorders.
Focusing on the dream in clinical practice, the
Conference will utilize two diff erent but interrelated
domains of knowledge, psychoanalysis and neuroscience,
to illuminate these disorders. Presently, neuroscience
is actively dealing with some crucial contributions from
recent models in quantum physics, and the latest
neurobiological data regarding neuropsychic functioning:
brain imaging to visualize and map the working mind,
artificial intelligence modeling, and consciousness and
the subjective experience. On the other side,
psychoanalysis of dreams, introduced by Freud with the
dream working model hypothesis, has developed in other
directions and theorizations. In the beginning, these
new contributions were centered around the concepts of
interpretation and / or construction. Recently, the
dream has been considered more like a working model in
itself: a mark of the analytic relationship, a map of
mental functioning, an internal characters casting. All
these theorizations are now of great interest within the
psychoanalytic community. The topics of the Conference
will initially be discussed on a specific forum, hosted
on the CPdr websitewww.cpdr.it.
All the questions discussed will be addressed to the
invited panelists after each presentation.

This conference
will explore
multi-dimensional
issues in
working with
children whose
social,
emotional,
behavioral and
academic
development has
gone off track.
A 7-year-old boy
was referred to
Dr. Braun for
disruptive
behavior at
school and at
home;
neuropsychological
testing revealed
a very
intelligent
child with
significant
learning
challenges and
various
impediments to
age-appropriate
ego and
interpersonal
functioning. His
development was
further impacted
by inconsistent
parenting and
marital conflict.
His aggressive,
impulsive
behavior
elicited strong
reactions in
parents,
teachers,
caregivers and
therapist. The
panel will
discuss the
following: the
complex
interplay of
psychodynamic,
developmental
and learning
factors in
children like
him; the use of
psychological
testing in
understanding
the child's
mental life and
creating a plan
for treatment;
the challenges
of establishing
a therapeutic
relationship
with aggressive
children; and
working with
parents.
Dr. Sherkow will
facilitate a
lively exchange
between the
panel and
members of the
audience.

This
presentation
aims,
first,
to
report
on
a
newly
developed
measure
of
therapeutic
process,
the
Dynamic
Interaction
Scales.
When
combined
with
the
Analytic
Process
Scales,
the
two
instruments
permit
a
reliable
and
fine-grained
assessment
of
technical
and
relational
aspects
of
psychoanalytic
and
psychodynamic
therapeutic
process.
The
presentation
will
extend
findings
previously
reported
in
"Relational
and
classical
elements
in
psychoanalyses:
An
empirical
study
with
case
illustrations"
(Waldron,
S.
et
al.,
2013. Psychoanalytic
Psychology,
30,
567-600).
The
important
role
of
the
relationship
has
been
affirmed
by
our
continued
study
of
27
fully-recorded
analytic
cases.
The
presentation's
second
objective
is
to
describe
how
early
sessions
appear
to
have
a
stronger
prognostic
value
than
has
previously
been
documented.
A
series
of
transcribed
examples
will
be
considered
in
relation
to
the
outcome
of
cases
that
did
well
and
cases
that
never
appeared
to
get
off
the
ground.
This
will
be
the
first
description
of
our
method
for
evaluating
what
we
call
"therapeutic
interaction
episodes."

The long-time influence
of W.R. Bion on my analytic
work
with Bennett Roth, Ph.D.

From his first
employment as a
staff psychologist
to the last paper
he published,
Bion's ideas have
influenced Dr.
Bennett Roth's
psychoanalytic
work with
individual and
group patients. He
happened upon
Bion's work prior
to reading Freud
and this changed
the lens he
applied to all
psychoanalytic
theories. Most of
Roth's writing on
group therapy
somehow reflect
Bion's ideas or
build upon them.
Roth participated
in Bion's talks in
New York City and
was fortunate to
have an hour
supervision with
him that had
long-lasting
effects. As Roth
began to explore
some problems in
the theory of
group theory, he
embarked on an
effort to read
Bion's
biographical
material to
further understand
who this
extraordinary man
was and his
creative gifts.
The celebration of
his "Talk in
New York"
gave Roth the
first opportunity
to share his
experience. This
opportunity
provides a further
attempt at a focal
analysis of his
impact.
Bennett Roth, Ph.D.is
a fellow of the American
Board of Examiners in
Psychology, a member of the
American Psychoanalytic and
the International
Psychoanalytical
Associations, and author ofBion,
Basic Assumption and
Violence: A corrective
reappraisal. He was a
participant in the IPTAR
conference on Bion in New
York "My memories of
supervision with Bion".
